Today we celebrate World Soil Day — a powerful reminder of how essential soil is for our ecosystems, food security, and the transition towards sustainable energy systems.

In the context of our project, dedicated to deepening the understanding of resource consumption and circularity within energy systems, soil represents one of those resources we often take for granted.

Yet it is soil that: stores carbon and supports climate mitigation, enables regenerative and sustainable agriculture, plays a role in responsible land use for energy infrastructure, reminds us why holistic, circular thinking is crucial in education, sustainability, and energy engineering.

Today, soil needs our attention more than ever. Degradation is accelerating worldwide, affecting ecosystems, the climate, and human well-being. This is why integrating circular resource management into research, education, and energy system design is so important.

Let’s take this day as an opportunity to reflect and to take action toward more sustainable practices.
